Philadelphia is close to a deal which would send Rodney Carney and a future first round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade designed to free more cap space, the Associated Press is reporting.
The 76ers will throw in reserve forward Calvin Booth but are working out the particulars of what they will get back from Minnesota.
The deal clears the way for the Sixers to potentially offer a nearly $14 million starting salary and a long-term deal to free agents like forward Elton Brand or Josh Smith.
