Cleveland Plain Dealer - Tony Grossi of The Cleveland Plain Dealer predicts that Browns running back Peyton Hillis will soon request a trade.

The NFL's trade deadline comes in Week 6.

The Browns have a bye this weekend.

Hillis and the Browns don't appear to have made much progress when it comes to a long-term contract extension.

He rushed for 1,177 yards on 270 carries in 16 games last season and scored 11 touchdowns.

Tony Grossi is a hack, I don't expect him to request a trade.

So we're basing a news story off some beat writer's "prediction"? Wowzers...

Anyhow, I don't really think anything happens. We rarely see a big trade during the season. It's always in the offseason. If they had any intent to trade him, had any doubts about working out a long-term contract, they would have sold high in the offseason.

I think the Browns will want to keep maybe franchise him in the off season if they can't agree to a new contract during the season

Why would he even request a trade right now...

Shit like this never happens during the season, and I doubt it happens with Hillis.

The Cleveland Browns and running back Peyton Hillis(notes) have been trying to figure out a contract extension that would keep him from being a free agent at season's end, but talks "are at a standstill," according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

"I don't think anybody pushed anybody against the wall on contract talks and said 'we're done,' but right now, it's kind of quiet,'' said Browns president Mike Holmgren, according to the paper. "Let's let Peyton play, let the dust settle and see what happens.''

The Browns are ready to let Hillis test the free-agent market and then try to re-sign him, Holmgren told the Plain Dealer, but also noted that negotiations haven't been called off, either. "It's still kind of in that floating area where you're waiting for a phone call or you're going to make a phone call or whatever," Holmgren said, the paper reports. "But, in the meantime, I talked with Peyton [Wednesday]. We talk weekly and I said, 'It's important that you just kind of go out there and do the best that you can do, get healthy, I'm rooting for you and selfishly for the team certainly.' I like him. He's a good guy, so that's where it is."

Of course, it's unclear if Hillis will be on the field Sunday for the Browns. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to a pulled hamstring.

In the four games he's played in this year, Hillis has rushed for 211 yards, which the Plain Dealer points out has him on pace for 675 yards, "502 fewer than he had last year."
