After hearing chants of "We want Vince!" from the crowd throughout the game, Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher finally relented in the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, inserting Vince Young into the game in relief of Kerry Collins, much to the delight of the folks who hadn't deserted LP Field.
According to what Fisher said in a press conference on Monday, however, we shouldn't expect No. 10 to be the starter this Sunday against the Pats. "We have to improve as a team and that is what we are working on," Fisher said. "Kerry is not the reason. Our football team is the reason we're at where we're at, not the quarterback position." While saying that he wouldn't make the switch this week, he left open the possibility of making the switch at some point this season, but also said he might not make the switch at all.
While the team scans the NCAA for a viable future of the franchise to draft in April, NFL Insider Adam Schefter notes that Vince's time as a starter could come quite soon:
"With another loss Sunday against the New England Patriots, Fisher and the Titans will know that the time has come for the team to figure out what it has in quarterback Vince Young. They have to for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is this: Young has a $4.25 million roster bonus due March 10, to go along with a base salary next season of $2.8 million. If the Titans release Young before March 10, they could save more than $7 million. But Tennessee also must figure out if Young can be its quarterback of the future or if he has more trade value to another team than he does now."
