At 44 years old, 7 teams, and 21 NFL season later...Vinny Testaverde has decided to retire following Sunday's finale at Tampa Bay. The Panthers called Testaverde on October 10th, desperate for a quarterback, after both Jake Delhomme and David Carr were lost due to injury.

"I just feel like it's time," Testaverde told the Associated Press before boarding the team bus for the airport. "Obviously at 44 it does get a little bit tougher as the weeks go by. I'm glad I'm able to do it on my own terms and walk away from the game not only healthy, but to experience some of the things I've been through."

Testaverde started 5 games for Carolina this season, throwing for 952 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Testaverde admits that his body has worn down as this season has progressed, with back pain and achillies pain keeping him out of practice at times.

Interestingly enough Vinny ends his career where it started, in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers made Testaverde the #1 pick of the 1987 NFL draft. Testeverde also played for the Browns, Ravens, Jets, Cowboys, and Patriots. Vinny made the Pro Bowl in 1996 and 1998. -AE
