It appears that Cleveland Browns swooped in right before the Vikings were going to make a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

WHOA.

Earlier in the night we here in the media room at Winter Park were laughing at the Vikings stealing another draft pick for trading down only one spot with the Cleveland Browns.

It appears that the Browns got the last laugh on the first night of the draft.

Here's the earth-shattering tweet from Jay Glazer:

Again: WHOA.

It looks like the Vikings were poised to make a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for the #22 pick and select Johnny Manziel with that pick. But the Browns pulled a page from the movie Draft Day and got their guy at the last second by coming in with a better offer.

Depending on where you come down on your opinion of Johnny Football, this is either more devastating news or another bullet dodged. Either way, the Vikings had a shot at Manziel earlier in the night and passed, and Cleveland now has their most exciting athlete since LeBron James left town. The Vikings still need to add a quarterback sometime in this draft, and the pool just shrunk by one.

This usually happens to the Browns, not in favor of them.

Yeah, but Johnny Viking sounds kinda cool.  Almost like Johnny Lightning.

*shrug. The Vikings got a better quarterback 10 picks later.

Yeah, you'd have to be somewhat sarcastic, because Garapollo's got one of the bigger eyesore issues of the QB draftees because of his happy feet.

Time to trade Ryan Mallet, though.

Johnny is injury prone, noodle armed, and not at all prepared to play against NFL defenses. He's not going to get to run around all over the place like he did at A&M. Teddy comes from a pro-style offense and his only knock is a poor Pro Day. He's going to a better team with a better group of assets around him AND in front of him, to block.

Teddy will be better than Johnny.

I don't get how Johhny is injury prone considering he didn't miss a game due to injury in his college career

Call it a prediction. You think he'll be able to withstand NFL hits? I sure as hell don't. Only Roethlisberger seems capable of that, and he's gargantuan. Johnny isn't.

He's got to make drastic changes to the way he plays or Cleveland can't feasibly expect him to start all 16. Not gonna happen.

Teddy starting all 16 isn't feasible either but that's just because he isn't good enough to hold a job that long.

Mallett isn't going to be traded

And poor footwork is one big eyesore issues of the QBs??? Compared to staring down recievers and not going through progressions well enough (Bortles), lacking a good strong deep ball (Bridgewater), and lacking true pocket presence (Manziel), Garropolo's footwork is by far the easiest to fix. He had a piss poor OL at E.Illinois; he got sacked so often there. You give him 3 years behind Tom & JMD, and his footwork issues will be gone. He has a strong arm, insanely quick release, and reads defenses arguably better than anyone else in this draft, with maybe Carr being ahead.

For as many flaws as there was for Garropolo, there are many more for Bridgewater. He threw 52 TDs and 9 INTs last year; you put him on a D1 school and he probably gets drafted above Teddy

You put him on a D1 team, and he probably doesn't throw 52 TDs and 9 ints

Well obviously. Those numbers speak more towards decision making and seeing the field. A quarterback that throws that many TDs usually would have more picks too, but not Garoppolo. He might get sacked often, but rarely would he put the ball in the wrong place, which was my point

Naturally this turns into a Garoppolo is the least flawed QB prospect thread since the Pats drafted him
