Now that the Vikings have unveiled their billion-dollar plans for a glass stadium, fans will soon turn their attention back to the gaping hole they can see through at middle linebacker.

Enter Brian Urlacher?

According to Chicago Sun-Times gossip columnist Michael Sneed, the longtime Bears star is close to making a decision about his football future. And he's looking north.

"Brian is leaning toward heading to Minnesota and is talking a one- to two-year contract," Sneed said Tuesday, quoting a source "close to Urlacher."

Sneed says the eight-time Pro Bowler, who turned up his nose at the Bears' $1.6 million contract offer back in March, also is talking to the Denver Broncos.

Whatever offer Urlacher takes, it will be a far cry from the $7.5 million he made last season in Chicago, when he managed only 53 tackles and no sacks over 12 games.

For their part, the Vikings previously announced plans to move Erin Henderson from weakside linebacker to the middle. They also drafted two Penn State linebackers (Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti) in April's draft.

None of them, though, is a five-time All-Pro like Urlacher. The question is how much the 13-year veteran has left in the tank.

Personally would love Urlacher in Minnesota.  I understand he is at the end of his career but the Vikings have a huge hole in the middle of their defense.  To myself on paper if the 2 first round rookies can hold up and perform to what I think they're capable of a move like this could complete the Vikings defense.  I just hope a deal gets done and that if it does Urlacher can stay healthy.

If healthy, Urlacher still has some decent football left in the tank. Not only does he have some football left, but his leadership ability would be huge for that Vikings defense. That being said, how weird would it be to see him in a Vikings jersey after spending his entire career in Chicago? Playing with that chip on his shoulder that the Bears weren't willing to give him a good deal might also help him play at a higher level for a season or two with one of their inner-division rivals. Very interesting news.

Normally I would think it's weird to see or rather something I thought I'd never see, however nothing will ever surprise me again now that I seen Brett Favre join the Vikings.  Although this would be a bit different for myself as I always hated Favre but have always liked Urlacher.
