On the heels of news that Dan Uggla rejected a four-year, $48 million offer, MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro — after confirming the offer Rosenthal mentioned — reports that the Marlins “may seriously consider” trading him.

He’d be valuable to any number of teams, I presume. But maybe less so if they think that he wants a deal of five years or greater than $48 million from them too. Ultimately, it seems, the true gauge of Uggla’s trade value is whether he just wants out of Miami for some reason or if he truly thinks he’s worth Chase Utley money or something close to it. -HBT
Turning down that kind of money can mean either 1 of 3 things, Uggla thinks he's worth more, Uggla really, really wants out of Florida...or both.

A lot of teams are in the market for a power hitting second baseman and calls to Florida will be made. Although it's highly unlikely, the Mets would be an ideal suitor for Uggla and despite playing in the same division, they will still try and make a play.

Well.. I got no idea what the hell Sandy Alderson is hoping to do... whether its rebuild or try to replace a few broken parts here and there.

if he wants to replace a few parts and Uggla fits into his plan, I'm all for it.

Giants. They had interest a year ago although I'm not sure if they match up as I'm not really familiar with their minor leagues and I can't see anyone giving the Marlins anything more than prospects for him.

Yea...I don't know either. DePodesta was just brought in as the "Special Assistant to General Manager"...making it a trio of guys who came up through Billy Beane's 'moneyball' system, that will be making all personnel decisions for the Mets.

This is going to be a very, very interesting transition for the Mets. I'm beginning to think they start doing away with the pricey veterans and look to build a younger, faster, cheaper team similar to what the Rays have.

Based upon the interviews and reports that I have seen from Sandy Alderson, he has specifically stated that his focus will be on making the farm system top tier. He also said that they wont be big players in the free agency of this year and sees that there are some contracts that make it very difficult this year. Anderson has also said that its a continuous process so I see them not making any drastic moves this year. Although Dan Uggla would be an improvement over our current 2B, I dont see him as a great solution. He doesnt play good defense, his power numbers will decrease significantly, and he doesnt hit for a good average. Thats a horrible combination for this team right now, we need people who can make contact and hit for high averages.

Jays need a second baseman, because reports say Hill is going to be playing third the upcoming season. Uggla may be out of their reach though.

Moving hill to third would be a bad idea IMO. He's one of the best defensive 2b in the MLB right now IMO and uggla is not what the jays need. Bad defender, not a guy who gets on base a lot and doesn't hit for average.

I have also heard rumours about the O-Dog coming back to Toronto, to replace Hill at second

It appears as if the Tigers are interested.

The Tigers have contacted the Marlins about second baseman Dan Uggla, according to sources.

Detroit is looking everywhere for a power bat and Florida may be forced to move Uggla if they can't lock him up with a long-term extension.

If he goes to the Tigers they could have a disastrous middle infield defense.. Peralta and Uggla, yuck, not to mention Cabrera at first base.
