Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin defended his decision to use Pro Bowl Linebacker James Harrison as the emergency snapper, a move that may have cost Pittsburgh the game Sunday. According to Tomlin, Harrison and Farrior practice snapping at least once a week.

"James snaps at least once a week, every week since I've been here," Tomlin said of Harrison, a Pro Bowl starter and team MVP last season. "In practice and training camp is one thing. Inside stadiums and in the fourth quarter of a football game against the defending world champions is another thing. ... If I had to do it all over again, I'd do the same thing. I'd hope for a different outcome, but I'd do it again."

Some asked why he didn't use Center Justin Hartwig. "Two totally different skill sets," Tomlin said."A center in shotgun snaps with one hand," Tomlin said. "When you're a long snapper in a punt situation, you're a two-handed snapper. Velocity is very important. Operation time, snap to kick, defines you.

he makes a good point there. It's a totally different game when it comes to Long Snaps.

BTW, it didnt cost them the game. THe GIants stil lscored a TD on that drive, they woulda taken the lead either way.

Who knows if they would have scored.. All of the momentum was with them after the safety. They were all excited, about to get the ball back after getting a score up to tie a game.

Anyway, the Steelers should have tried to use a regular offensive linemen, or a back up center or something.. Unless Harrison was the best option, which is kind of sad.

it says right in the article he was the best decision. You dont use an offensive lineman when their not trained for the job.
