PSD - Titans running back Chris Johnson isn’t going anywhere. While the fifth-year pro’s hefty contract fueled speculation otherwise, the Titans “obviously” are going to honor the deal, coach Mike Munchak said Thursday. “There was never talk that … we were going to cut C.J.,” he said.

Johnson is scheduled to make $10 million in 2013 — $9 million of which becomes guaranteed today, the fifth day of the new NFL year. The Tennessean reported Dec. 20 that the Titans planned to keep Johnson, who signed a $53.5 million extension in 2011 and is under contract through 2016.As expected, the Titans also plan to honor the contract of safety Michael Griffin, whose $3.5 million base salary becomes guaranteed today.

Johnson and Munchak had what the running back called a “positive” conversation.

“I am more excited about this year than any other year after talking to Coach Munchak,” Johnson said. “I feel better about some of the things we’re going to do and I want to be a part of it. I feel like Coach Munchak wants to put the team back to some winning ways and get things going in the right direction. I feel good about it.” Said Munchak: “It will be business as usual. … I talked to CJ to see how he was doing and make sure there was no misunderstanding on what was going on, and he was fine and we’re good.”

Speculation persisted recently about Johnson’s future with the Titans.Last month, the Titans parted ways with running-backs coach Jim Skipper and replaced him with veteran NFL assistant Sylvester Croom.
