This could be nothing more than a minor chest contusion, and maybe the Spurs are just being extra cautious with their veteran big-man, but there is a rumor going around that Tim sustained a broken rib. If the spasms clear up and the MRI is negative, Tim could be back sometime during their West Coast trip that starts in LA tomorrow. If a rib is broken we can expect the Spurs to ease Duncan back to the lineup. Rib fractures usually take 4-6 weeks to heal.

Sucks, but better now than in the playoffs.

Btw, i don't get why that takes time to figure out. Wouldn't just a simple x-ray reveal if its broken or not?

It would, but there's cartilage in there, so I assume they do an MRI to check for that, too.

An MRI confirmed that Tim Duncan suffered a chest contusion during Wednesday's game, and he's doubtful to play on Friday.

The good news is that he didn't break a rib or suffer any more serious damage, and he'll be with the team when they travel for games in L.A., Portland and Denver. If he's forced to miss any games, expect more playing time for Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw and Jeff Ayres.
