The Detroit Tigers have found an outfielder to platoon with Andy Dirks in left field. It's Rajai Davis.
Davis has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Tigers, Ben Nicholson-Smith of sportsnet.ca reported early Tuesday. Details of the agreement have not been disclosed, but FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi said the deal is worth between $9 or $10 million total.
That's the problem with guys who thrive in limited roles. When they do thrive in that role, everyone (fans and managers), are going to want to see that players role expanded into something they can't be, and now you're hurting your team. You're going to see that with Raburn this year when he plays 140 games. Won't be pretty
I like the signing. Solid guy to have platooning with Dirks in LF. Will add another dimension to the team when he's out there. If we weren't going to go out and sign a Choo in LF, this would be the next best thing.
It just makes the Fister trade look even dumber imo. That money we saved by trading Fister just went to Nathan as opposed to Nathan and a high priced OF. And I highly doubt that we wouldn't have been able to pay both guys.
I'm happy with it. I warmed up to this idea, a few days ago, because I didn't like the price tag of Choo. What this will do, is put more pressure on Dirks to perform, for each time he goes out there and struggles, it'll mean more playing time for Davis. He'd probably be alright with around 100-110 games. Could be even more, depending on how often he'd come in for late game situations, which I have the feeling will be a lot.
