Tigers Name Porcello 5th Starter

The Tigers have named Rick Porcello their No. 5 starter heading into the 2013 season.

Drew Smyly, who was battling for the job, will move to the bullpen.

Porcello was 10-12 with a 4.59 ERA in 31 starts with Detroit last season, when Smyly went 4-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 18 starts as a rookie.

smyly didnt seem to care much, said he was happy to just be on the team and in the pen.

I was impressed by Smyly last year, and I don't understand taking him out of the rotation. He's better than Porcello.
 
And on another note, Porcello seems like a guy to me who could excell in short relief with elevated fastball velocity.
