Reports: Thome agrees with Twins

The veteran slugger agreed to a one-year, incentive-laden contract with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, according to multiple media reports.

The contract, which came just one day after the Chicago White Sox told Thome he wouldn't be asked to rejoin the team as a designated hitter, is worth $1.5 million with about $750,000 in incentives, according to the Pioneer Press of St. Paul, Minn.

The 39-year-old Thome will likely be more of a bench player for the Twins than the middle-of-the-lineup force he's been for 19 seasons.

Thome, who played three-plus seasons with the White Sox before he was traded to the Dodgers on Aug. 31, was interested in returning to Chicago.

General manager Ken Williams gave manager Ozzie Guillen the final call on the move, and Guillen decided he couldn't give Thome enough at-bats to justify bringing him back.

"I play him once a week or twice a week. I don't think it was fair for him," Guillen said Monday.

Thome has 564 career homers, including 134 in his three-plus seasons with the White Sox. He hit 23 a year ago for Chicago before he was traded to the Dodgers. With Los Angeles, he was 4-for-17 in 17 games.

SOURCE
I know this hasn't been confirmed by Thome or the Twins just yet...but ya' betta' believe it. Fact of the matter is the White Sox said today, they won't be brining him back or within hours, the Twins closed in. Not a bad signing for the Twins, low risk, cheap, and he's back in the AL to fill the DH role. The Twins could really benefit from the added veteran leadership and Thome can still swing. I would be interested to see Thome following Mauer and Morneau in that line-up. The Twins are still my AL Central favorite and this signing can only help.

Jim Thome and the Twins, ughhh.... I just cant see him in a Twins uniform. I still cant believe Thome has lasted this long and still maintained that awesome power, good for him. I thought he would be done by now, but I was completely wrong.

SMH @ Thome bouncing around the AL Central

Anyway, what is the point of this? Kubel is a terrible fielder and is pretty much a DH, and Morneau is at 1B. Is he there to pinch hit?
