The Yankees don't want their richest fans to have to sit next to poorer fans

"The problem below market at a certain point is that if you buy a ticket in a very premium location and pay a substantial amount of money. It's not that we don't want that fan to sell it, but that fan is sitting there having paid a substantial amount of money for a ticket and [another] fan picks it up for a buck-and-a-half and sits there, and it's frustrating to the purchaser of the full amount."

Trost then added a comment that raised eyebrows on social media because of its seemingly elitist undertones. "And quite frankly," he said, "the fan may be someone who has never sat in a premium location. So that's a frustration to our existing fan base."

Thoughts?

Heard about this the other day. Still can't wrap my head over how the Yankees think this is logical.

You basically eliminate a percentage of fans who often times will buy tickets the day of the event plus also limiting fans that are also on a budget (because God knows how much a regularly priced NYY ticket is).

Only guess is that by using their own personal ticket exchange they'll get a percentage of the transaction. Which is all they care about.

Don't want fans who have paid a substantial amount sitting next to people that paid a buck and half....lol. Still laughing at that stupidity.

Yeah the real reasoning behind the move for the Yankees is that they corner the 2nd-hand sales market and keep it for themselves

They said in their defense of the move that Stubhub will still be able to buy/sell tickets in a way that works under the policy but based on what I read that's 100% false

And yeah complete elitism there but they're the Yankees so nobody is shocked

Ahhh, what would we do without the pretentious Yankees in MLB?
