Boston's interest in Tomas Kaberle is believed to be strong, although it's hard to envision the premium the Bruins would have to pay for Toronto to do them any more favors.

From Dreger say we could at best get a second and a prospect. Not worth it IMO. Just resign him.

Apparently Burke said on the Fan 590 today that Kaberle does not fit into their future plans and has not been offered an extension. Burke says he has a better chance of getting what he wants on July 1st.

Kills his trade value a bit (if the plan was to even move him)

Really hoping they give Schenn an "A" but it will most likely go to Kaberle.

Between periods last night, Chiarelli said he is willing to deal away Toronto’s first-round pick this year, the one he owns as part of the deal that sent Phil Kessel to the Leafs.

“I’ve had an offer for it, and I’m willing to deal it,’’ he said. “We continue to talk with the club that offered it. But needless to say, we’d have to get an elite talent back for it.’’

It’s all but a certainty that Chiarelli will rekindle talks with Brian Burke in Toronto about obtaining defenseman Tomas Kaberle, whose puck moving could tease out another dimension of offense from the Boston forwards. Burke, according to two league sources, is also willing to move ex-Bruins prospect Kris Versteeg. Both Kaberle and Versteeg, who plays with a Brad Marchand-like edge, could provide a significant booster shot for the Black and Gold.

“We have a lot of assets,’’ said Chiarelli, “and we are looking to deal.’’

For now, he’s still taking measure.

Kaberle has a no-trade clause, meaning he can decide if and when he wants to be moved; he announced before last season's deadline that he'd be willing to waive it if he weren't in the Leafs' long-term plans. He's still a Leaf, and a potential unrestricted free agent after the season, so the ball is entirely in Kaberle's court as to whether he wants to help Toronto out by waiving his no-trade in the next 19 days so the Leafs can get something for him before he almost certainly bolts in the summer.

That lessens his trade value, but Burke is not going to give him away. Sources say that the Leafs would want at least three pieces back -- a current NHLer, a prospect and possibly a first-round pick in return for Kaberle.

Dallas Dave

#Habs shopping Andrei Kostitsyn for a defencemen. Unconfirmed rumors that they've offered Kostitsyn + Weber for Kaberle, still checking that
Fuck that, I don't want AK any part of Toronto.

Yeah there is a lot of buzz at the moment of Kaberle to the Bruins. Sportsnet was actually surprised to see that Kaberle was in the lineup.

BOSTON – Things are reaching a fever pitch here in Boston with the Tomas Kaberle trade talks. Rumors, whispers and any kind of info are on the front burner for everyone in both the Hub and Toronto, but things aren’t that close to being a deal yet between the Leafs and B’s.

CSNNE.com has checked with several hockey sources that indicated the All-Star Maple Leafs defenseman hasn’t yet been asked to waive his no-trade clause despite the fact both Bruins President Cam Neely and Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke told 98.5 the Sports Hub that the two teams are talking trade.

A hockey source also indicated to CSNNE.com that any potential deal with the Leafs is centered on a package of Blake Wheeler or Mark Stuart, a draft pick believed to be a third round draft pack and possibly a prospect from the B’s organization close to contributing at the NHL level.

Burke was in Boston to watch Zach Hamill play last week, so it would be logical he could be a player that both sides are discussing, but sources couldn’t confirm or deny Hamill’s involvement.

Looks like Kaberle is on his way out

It's almost a foregone conclusion that Tomas Kaberle will be dealt, and TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting it will in all likelihood be a move to Boston.

"Failing a complete meltdown ... there's strong belief that Kaberle will be traded to Boston," Dreger reported. "It's unlikely the deal gets done [Thursday], but sources say it's close and say the deal doesn't hinge on Kaberle signing an extension with the Bruins."

Dreger reports that the details have yet to be worked out, which at this point is the only obstacle in a deal getting completed. He also adds that the Bruins are working on a secondary trade to clear cap room for Kaberle (prorated $4.25 million cap hit).

One interesting scenario on the trade grapevine yesterday was Kaberle coming to Boston as part of a three-way deal in which the B’s would ship winger Blake Wheeler (and maybe a draft pick) to a Western Conference club.
