Reading the countless replies to the many "Brett Favre to the Jets" posts, I know for a fact that I am not the one with that uneasy feeling when I see this:
Yes, he is still wearing green (different shade), and yes, he is still wearing #4 but after 16 years of being the face of the green and gold at Lambeau...Favre in a Jets uniform just doesn't sit right. "Unsettling", "uncomfortable", "just not right"...just some of the specific phrases being tossed out there right now. Almost as uncomfortable as sh*tting your pants or comparable to the eerie feeling of being hit on by a homosexual for the first time, right?
Okay, maybe those examples are a bit overboard but I think we would all agree that it's going to take some time to get used to. As I sat here and reflected on this shake-up in the wonderful world of the Sports, I am reminded that this isn't the first time that any of us has had to experience such an adjustment to a major player in the game.
Those end of career moves where an athlete ends up in a new city, with new colors, has happened to us before. And just like we will for the next couple of months, we have all swallowed the new looks of some of our favorite legends and accepted them...for that time being.
Turning back the clock, it's time to take a look at some of the late career uniform changes that have caused us this familiar uneasiness time and time again.
Pretty weird trip down memory lane huh? But it gets worse as we travel even further back. What else makes sh*t even more the strange is when along with new colors come a new and unfamiliar number on the players' back. Feast your eyes as some of you may not even know that some of these famous changes late in careers actually went down.
...and of course 2 old photos that have always made me queasy...
While hunting down all these photos, I began to think about the flip side of things. What about some of our favorite players of all time and the teams they played for in brief stints at the beginning of their careers? Well some may not be too hard to forget, but there are those that are just weird to imagine after considering where some of these guys ended up and for how long.
...continued....
