So if you guys haven't figured it out by now, finally...AE has come back...to SI.
On a serious note, I left the site months ago for a few different reasons, none of which were personal and nothing that was the fault of any single member here. I can tell you all that a big reason I left so frustrated was because of the position I was in. At time where Jarrod starting getting busier offline, I started to pick up a lot of the slack. I was in a position where I felt like I was doing a majority of the staff work, on top of running NFL Mogul, and suddenly my stay here became more obligatory than anything. I was at a point where I had to spend a couple hours a day on here, at least. If I was busy and had to miss a day or 2, I'd log back on with a ton of sh-t to do, a lot of make-up stuff. Being able to just post, chit-chat, be a sim league GM...all that was overtaken by work. I had reached a breaking point with SI and I had enough. I decided to leave the site and I guessed that I wouldn't be back. I left the staff a pretty lengthy PM, highlighting all my reasons, all my farewells....but I opted to stay discreet about my exit to the rest of the community. For the record, I left unannounced only b/c I felt like "Goodbye" threads don't do the site much justice from a prospective new members' point of view.
After a slight break from the whole sports forum experience, I set out to see what else is out there. Having burnt down a lot of bridges at competing sites b/c of previous SI recruiting attempts, my choices were limited but what choices I did have, I look into. Believe it or not, I ended up banned at a couple of different sites and then completely screwed in an attempt to open up a new place. All in all, my experiences weren't good...some reasons I will touch on as I continue.
Moving forward....
The past is the past and I am over all the frustration. I happy to have been able to peek in on the site once in a while and see that a lot of members have stepped up in many ways. The Staff role is a role that will remain in my past, I've been there, done that, and as long as that obligation isn't near me...I am much happier anywhere. I will tell you all that honestly, a big reason I have decided to come back is because of the people here. Its no secret that there's a half-a-dozen sports forums out there that are way busier on a daily basis than Sportz Insomnia. I joined a couple of these sites while on my hiatus and quickly, I began to clash with other members of the community and even more, staff. We've got all these super active sites and if you don't already know, believe me when I tell you, they are 80% full of sh-tbags. You've got little kids mingling in with the community, taking nothing seriously, constantly baiting, attacking...just plain out on a mission to start eThug wars. On top of that, I sat back and watched the Staff of these places do absolutely nothing about the problem. Next thing you know, I am getting into with the sh-tbags, I am ripping the staff apart for their lack of integrity, lack of assertiveness...and I end up banned.
What has made the SI community so great for so long is the atmosphere. Yes, we've had our problems with the shi-t talkers, baiters, spammers...but the Staff has always been so quick to rid of those type of people, that we don't have the constant chaos that is going on in all these other places. The longer I tried to fit in at these busier sites, the more I realized that what I was looking for is what I am comfortable with. Some people are all about the busier, whorehouse-type of forums, but me...I never came within an eyelash of feeling as comfortable there as I did here. We have some great people at SI, always have, and I missed it. We've got a chill community, a foundation of mature members, great personalities, and everything always clicks. Again, our fair share of issues but nothing close to what is going on in these other places. We all also have to appreciate that there won't be a day where we try to log onto the site and suddenly discover its gone, merged, shut down. SI has always been a stable community, featuring a stable nucleus of people. The stability is what I was looking for and it was something that was lost for me here months ago. Re-Establishing that stability here, re-connecting with all you great people again...this is why I am here now.
To those SI vets who already know me well know that I gave everything I had to this site. I don't regret any of my days spent as an upper echelon staffer and I am proud of what I accomplished during my time spent. Though I am shifting back into the "Member" role, I look forward to going back to contributing the same way I did when I first began here. I am excited to re-connect with all of you and once again, do what we do. To all the newer SI members that I have yet to meet, I hope you all took the time to read this novel and trust in the fact that its all truth. Take it from me, there's no other place like SI on the net....none.
Well now that I got all this off my chest, time to get back to basics. Back to posting and hopefully I have an MLB Sim League draft to start planning for. Somebody change my freaking name back to AE already. I'll see you all out there, go Yankees, go Vikings. -AE
