So I was listening to a Chad Ford piece on his Tank List, and he was briefly talking about the potential for the Sixers to be huge, soon. And just going into detail, I think he is right on.
They are currently led by 6'6" PG Michael Carter-Williams, who seems to be the front runner for the ROY award. They also have C Nerlens Noel, an elite defensive shot blocker, who probably won't play this year. Despite a decent record right now, I don't expect them to be any good at all, and they should be in the market for a Top 5 pick. They also have the Pelicans pick, from getting Noel in return for Jrue Holiday, and that pick should be in the 9-16 range. At the end of this year, the Sixers will have over $35M in cap space as well.
With a top 5 pick, they can get either of the SF phenoms, Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker, or the offensive minded PF Julius Randle, who would be a great pair with Noel. If the can't get either of those 3, there will be plenty of trade suitors who want to pick up one of the two premiere PGs: Dante Exum and Marcus Smart. And with the New Orleans pick, they can get someone like freshman highflyer F Aaron Gordon, or a shooter like G Wayne Selden or G Glenn Robinson III. And they would still have plenty of cap to pick up a FA, whether it's Melo level or it's a bunch of lesser guys like Avery Bradley, Jordan Crawford, Lance Stephenson, etc
If in two years, the Sixers could end up with a starting 5 lineup of MCW-Stephenson-Selden-Randle-Noel, that's an extremely young team that could rival a lot of teams in the future. They really set themselves up well, imo
