Carmelo Anthony could be motivated by the treatment of Stephon Marbury by both the New York Knicks' organization and fans to leave the team in free agency.

Marbury sat four rows behind the Knicks' bench on Christmas Day, his first visit to Madison Square Garden in three years.

“He saw Marbury get heckled by some fans on Christmas,’’ one source told The Post. “He doesn’t want to be the next Marbury. He’s very sensitive.”

If the Knicks continue to spiral, Anthony will be the face of those troubles regardless of his production.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls are on his short list, according to a source. The Lakers have cap space, but a reunion with Mike D'Antoni would be unappealing.

The Clippers would need to acquire Anthony via a trade.

Anthony's preference is to remain with the Knicks if he sees a solid plan in place.

The New York Knicks have had a terribly disappointing season and their chances of turning it around with Carmelo Anthony as the cornerstone look bleak until cap room opens up in 2015.

“I think he’s leaving," said a former teammate of Anthony. "I’ve played with Melo for a long time and he knows he can’t win here. At this stage, all he wants to do is win. That’s why he’ll leave.”
Anthony will be a free agent on July 1.

Several others close to Anthony believe he will leave the Knicks, even though they can pay him $30 million more in guaranteed money.

If he's truly interested in winning, he's not going to the Lakers. So someone is lying here.

The Clippers can't afford him, and they are ineligible to do a sign and trade. He's not going there.

The Bulls may be interesting, but what would they give up in a sign and trade? Plus, the Knicks are barely eligible for sign and trades anyway if Melo doesn't pick up his option. They surely aren't eligible to do sign-and-trades if he does.

I wouldn't want him any longer if I were the Knicks but they don't really have much flexibility with what to do cause of all their traded picks

This guy is just a more offensively efficient Rudy Gay who plays less defense. Check that, no defense.

Most overrated player of the last 15 years. I'm not even going to remember him in 20.

He's debatably the best natural scorer in the league, still.

Can post up like a big man and can hit a three like a guard.

Doesn't matter if that's all he does when he clearly has the physical tools to do so much more. Carmelo is going to finally grow up after retirement, and he's going to regret every second of his career.

Problem is, he's better served as a stretch or undersized four, than a three. He's better on both ends at the four.

He's grabbing 9 boards a game as well.

He's still top 10, easily.

While I doubt it would ever go down, I'd fully welcome a Humph+Bass+Bradley+picks for Melo to come to Boston, with a commitment to re-sign. Melo never has had good coaching, and he would with Stevens. Plus he'd be with his boy Rondo, and have a decent #2 in Jeff Green, with JCraw at SG as well. Plus Boston would still have some valuable Nets picks that he knows would be some nice young talent

it's not gonna happen, but I'd be happy if it did

Karl is a good coach

Terrible personnel guy, from what I understand most of his former players couldn't stand him..

As for Melo, fuck him, I can really care less if he leaves at this point. Fuck names bring on players that will compete every night. Keep Stat, Tyson, Pablo, Murry, and Shump maybe Bargs

Dump the rest of the roster
