According to Pro Football Weekly, the Texans hope to get Steve Slaton as many preseason carries as possible in order to showcase him for a trade.

PFW may just be reading tea leaves after the Houston Chronicle reported something similar back in March. It's no secret that Slaton is on the outs with the Texans, and that the team "would entertain trade offers for him." Whether there will be any NFL preseason is unclear at this point. Ben Tate could also use plenty of exhibition carries after missing all of last year.

Slaton still isn't that bad of a running back, he's just been unlucky on the injury side of things. If he's able to stay healthy, I think he'd make a very solid backup for any team out there. Watch out for the Colts to try to sweep in and pick themselves up a running back. Any other teams you guys could see being interested in him?

Thoughts?

He could start for some teams...but it makes sense to trade him for Houston. Foster was a beast. Just gotta hope he stays healthy.

Texans aren't trading him because they have Foster.

Texans are trading him because hes bad. Hes had like 1 good season, and that was because of the scheme he was the RB in. (ZBS makes alot of the RBs look good). He then couldn't hold onto the ball, and hes just not good.

I don't think Slaton should start for any team, but he'd be a nice addition as a second back in a two back system. He's pretty versatile.

If they didn't have Foster, they would be keeping him.

Exactly. RB Depth is all he'd be good for. He had his chance to be the starter, and lost it. Foster is better and as said Ben Tate should be back for them next year, and I see him being a nice piece for them as well. Injuries and Foster helped make him expendable.
