The Houston Texans fired defensive coordinator Frank Bush on Monday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Sources have told Schefter that head coach Gary Kubiak will return next season.

Houston ranked 30th in total defense (376.9 yards per game) and last against the pass this season (267.5).

One defensive coordinator candidate who will be considered, according to the sources, is former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips, whom Kubiak worked with in Denver.

Kubiak said last week that the defense never recovered from the loss of Pro Bowl middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans, who ruptured his Achilles tendon in the sixth game. The Texans have given up at least 24 points in each of their past eight losses.

Houston (6-10) missed the playoffs for the ninth straight season of its existence and had its worst record since going 6-10 in 2006, Kubiak's first season.
Had to be done. Had one of the worst defenses last season, and on paper it should be nowhere near the worst.

This will definitely help the Texans, especially if they get a good/proven defensive coordinator like Wade Phillips. That is what was holding this team back, horrible defensive play, week in, week out.
