Defenseman Anton Stralman reportedly has signed a one-year contract worth $900,000 with the New York Rangers, according to a tweet from TSN's Bob McKenzie.
The Rangers are currently operating with only six defensemen on their roster and coach John Tortorella said Wednesday the team was searching through some options to rectify that. Stralman, who played the last two seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets, is apparently the answer.
Stralman, who played 51 games with the Blue Jackets last season, was with the New Jersey Devils during training camp, but was not signed. He remained in New Jersey through the start of the regular season, but eventually returned to Sweden.
Tortorella said Thursday before the Rangers played Anaheim at Madison Square Garden that he had no update on the status of injured defenseman Marc Staal, who hasn't practiced with the team since early in training camp as he deals with post-concussion symptoms.
