David Stern addressed the media following Wednesday media and said that the owners are "not near a deal" with the players.

A larger-scale meeting is scheduled for Friday.

"Let's get the two committees in and see whether they can either have a season or not have a season," said Stern. "And that's what's at risk."

Sounds like we've come to the pivotal meetings in this entire offseason. If something is going to get done, it needs to get done tomorrow. Stern is going to threaten cancellation of entire 2011-12 season if they don't get a deal within site by tomorrow evening. This is the make-or-break meeting. Hopefully the talks progress.

Thoughts?

Yeah, Stern doesn't want a shortened season. I guess the last shortened season was awful.

Well I really hope they can make enough progress to make Stern think only missing a few games is plausible.

I want basketball dang it.

He's just playing hardball. He won't cancel the entire season. Maybe cancel a portion of it, but I doubt he cancels it all.

In fact I read that an NBA Spokesman said last night tat is 100% inaccurate. So all I can say is if he does cancel the season after the weekend, that spokesman has a lot of explaining to do.

Yeah, i'm sure its just a stunt to try to get the players to soften their stance.

I heard if a deal isn't agreed to this weekend we likely won't see basketball until December or January at the earliest.

Hopefully we'll see some progress but I'm not very optimistic at this point.

:(

I just wanna watch the Bulls...

I'd trade the NFL and MLB for the NBA.
