Steve Stamkos said that he is close to signing a new deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"I think it's close," he said. "I don't think it's far off. As close as we are, it's not something I'm really worried about." Stamkos added that he believes a contract will be worked out well before he becomes a restricted free agent on July 1. The money involved in the deal is speculated to be about $7 million per season. He figures his agents, Don Meehan and Mark Guy, will talk to Tampa GM Steve Yzerman at the NHL Entry Draft this weekend. Stay tuned for details as they emerge.

Probably going to be a long term deal around eight years. He just needs to rebound from a poor second half of last season.

Also heard from #NHL draft #Lightning and RFA Stamkos are not close to getting a deal done. Teams are eligible to submit offer sheet July 1

No one else is signing Stamkos lol

They'll lock him up longterm. Probably longer than 8 years if you ask me.

I also read that report of the deal not being close. Kind of surprised me honestly. He'll stay a Bolt though. IMO.
