Yahoo! -
Jerry Stackhouse and the Dallas Mavericks may be in trouble, according to Yahoo! Sports columnist Adrian Wojnarowski, after Stackhouse revealed plans to be bought out of his contract with the Nets should the proposed trade for Jason Kidd go ahead and then return to Dallas as a free agent.

According to the report, several league sources said the NBA will consider forbidding Stackhouse to re-sign with the Mavericks this season as punishment for public comments the forward made on Wednesday that suggested tampering could have occurred.

Without Stackhouse coming back into the fold, some are questioning if Cuban would pull the trigger on the trade since he is losing so much depth. Stackhouse said that he was only part of the deal "to make the numbers work."

"I feel great," Stackhouse said. "I get 30 days to rest then I'll be right back. I ain't going nowhere."

How is he being an idiot? If anything, it's smart... He's not breaking any rules, so there's nothing wrong with it IMO. The part about the NBA not allowing him to re-sign with Dallas is ridiculous though. He's not breaking any rules... If they want to change it, then wait till the off-season.

Yea I agree, they shouldn't be able to do anything until there is actually a rule.

He isn't breaking the rule about resigning but your not allowed to talk about things like that.
The league hasn't approved it and he was talking about it.
Thats what he got punished for.

Well the rule was originally inclined for players who get waived cannot sign with there team right after there cleared. It is also called the Gary Payton rule since BOS traded Gary Payton originally to the Hawks for Antoine Walker. The Hawks waived Payton and soon after he signed with the Celtics. It is not like the league didnt know these things happen. If the Nets decide to waive Stackhouse then he's fair game for the other 29 teams. The rule was made to stop players from signing "instantly." The why the made the 30 day wait period. Its like whatever. The league shouldnt penalize the Mavs. Maybe fine Stack but not Penalize the team from signing him.

I think nobody should get penalized for something like since it is not a rule (yet). But Stack really shouldn't have said anything about it all and just let it happen...

Why should he get fined for his comments? He's just stating the obvious... The NBA is too strict about these things... It's a frickin' game.
