CB Springs In Town For Visit

The Eagles turned their attention to defense Tuesday, announcing that free-agent cornerback Shawn Springs, released by the Redskins in a salary-cap move, is in town for a visit. He will be available to the media Wednesday afternoon at the NovaCare Complex. Springs is scheduled to be available to the media at 12:30 p.m. Stay with PhiladelphiaEagles.com for complete coverage.

With the free agent departures of Brian Dawkins and Sean Considine, coupled with the trade of Lito Sheppard, the team is somewhat thin in the secondary. Hence the reason for Springs' visit. It's not clear what role the coaches would have in mind for Springs if he was to sign with Philadelphia.

The 6-foot, 204-pound Springs played in nine games last season, including seven starts, and recorded 36 tackles, one interception and seven passes defensed in playing against the likes of Arizona's Anquan Boldin and Dallas' Terrell Owens. Springs picked off 12 passes, notched seven sacks and recorded 250 tackles in his five seasons with the Redskins.

A 12-year veteran, Springs has collected 32 career interceptions and earned a Pro Bowl appearance following the 1998 season. In 2004, he became the first defensive back in NFL history to lead his team in sacks (6) and interceptions (5).

The No. 3 overall pick in 1997 out of Ohio State, Springs played his first seven years with Seattle before joining the Redskins.
now i guess they are looking to move him to safety, since they got sheppard and brown as there cbs and hanson as there nickel back..
