NEW YORK -- A league source said Tuesday afternoon that New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire is expected to miss the remainder of the Knicks' first-round series with the Miami Heat after badly cutting his hand hitting a fire extinguisher case in a hallway of American Airlines Arena after Miami's 104-94 Game 2 victory.
Stoudemire cut his left hand on the metal and glass box in which the extinguisher was encased, and received stitches in the Knicks' locker room afterward. He left the arena Monday night with his left arm in a sling.
The Knicks played most of the second half of the regular season without Stoudemire, who suffered from a bulging disk in his lower back March 24 and missed 13 games down the stretch before returning for the Knicks' final four regular season games.
He had 18 points and 7 rebounds in the Game 2 loss. Game 3 is Thursday evening at Madison Square Garden.
Without Stoudemire, the Knicks have played Carmelo Anthony at power forward and used J.R. Smith and Steve Novak at the small forward position.
