Sounds like the Chiefs are sending their 2nd rounder this year as well as pick in next year's draft.

You may think that this is overpay, but look at who else was available.

QBs in Draft: Mike Glennon, Tyler Bray, Matt Barkley, etc
FA QBs: Matt Moore, Jason Campbell, David Garrard, etc
Others available: Ryan Mallett, Matt Flynn

Out of those out there, Smith is much better than anyone else available. Plus Smith's past two seasons were pretty good for a QB. He was 3rd in passer rating for QBs with 200+ attempts this year, 9th last year.

He's a mobile enough QB that can act as a game manager, which is what the Chiefs, and more importantly OC Doug Pederson, wants from their QB.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Chiefs as a darkhorse playoff team.
Outside their division games (in the easiest division), this is who they play

vs NYG
vs DAL
vs HOU
vs IND
vs CLE
@ JAC
@ BUF
@ PHI
@ TEN
@ WAS

That road schedule is cake, especially if they get Washington with a non 100% RGIII. And their tough games are at home too, which makes it easier. I can see an 8-8/9-7 season from that possibly

Good move by both teams here

The Giants are playing the Chiefs first game? Legit.

Still don't know about this. Outside of Harbuagh, I'm afraid of what Alex Smith has. Hasn't really shown me anything outside of Harbuagh's reign.

This could bite KC in the ass based on who they traded for in the first place. Matt Cassell played for the right coach at first. It took how many years for Alex Smith to play for the right one? He's an upgrade, but I wouldn't say he's much better than, say, Matt Moore, who has NEVER had anything to work with in his starting stints but has still been fairly good. I'd like to see him get a chance to start somewhere. I hope Arizona signs Moore, honestly.

Maybe they just plan on handing it off to Charles 40 times a game

Except the fact that in the past two seasons, KC QBs have a TD/INT ratio of 21/38. Alex Smith's in that time is 30/10

Jim Harbaugh deserves 100% credit for Alex Smith's success. Reid would have gotten the same production out of Cassel as he would Smith.

they could NOT go into another season with cassel and they couldnt justify taking any qb #1 overall

The 49ers are stacked from top to bottom, and now they have more picks.
