Scott Skiles confirmed in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon that he will return as Bucks coach for the 2012-’13 season, the final year of his contract.
“We want to hit the ground running,” Skiles said. “With a full camp and a full season we have reason to be optimistic.”
Skiles led the Bucks to a 31-35 record during the past season and had discussions with team owner Herb Kohl and general manager John Hammond over the last few days. He had said immediately following the season he needed a few days to “decompress” and weigh whether he should return.
He faced a decision of whether to come back for the final year of the deal or accept some type of settlement and have the freedom to go elsewhere. Skiles elected to stay with the Bucks organization.
Skiles has led the Bucks for the past four seasons, compiling a 146-166 record and leading Milwaukee to one playoff appearance.
