Nets' forward Sean Williams, who is currently in the doghouse in New Jersey, has confirmed to the New York Post that he asked team President Rod Thorn not to pick up his third year option so he could become a free agent quicker.
Williams, though, said the decision not to pick up his option had nothing to do with wanting to leave New Jersey, but rather to get onto his next contract quicker.
"I told Rod I didn't want him to pick up my option," said Williams. "It had nothing to do with me not wanting to be here as part of this team because I love this team."
"It's part of the business. I want to get to my second deal as fast as possible."
