Schwartz agrees to become Lions next coach

The Detroit Lions have settled on a successor to Rod Marinelli, hiring Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz as their new head coach.

“After an extensive search that included several highly qualified coaches, we are thrilled that Jim Schwartz will become our team’s head coach,” Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement. “Martin (Mayhew) and I believe that Jim’s qualifications and vision will lead this organization on the field toward our goal of becoming a championship football team.”

The Lions will officially introduce Schwartz on Friday in a press conference at Ford Field.

Schwartz, who had a second interview with the Lions earlier this week, emerged from a group of candidates that included Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Dolphins assistant head coach Todd Bowles and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

Well Marinelli ran the Tampa 2, and that was a failure here.
We didn't have the players for it.

I`m very exciting about this. Scwartz will help us get turned around. Not right away, but we defiantely wont have a repeat of last year. Yes, we need the players to help him, but we have 5 picks in the 1st 3 rounds. So, if we make the right picks, we should be fine.

I would of liked to see the Lions get Leslie Frazier, but Schwartz should be a good hire. He just needs to keep the team respectable, until we bring in some talent. No need for a 1 year turn around.
