What it is - The Pistons will have to give Charlotte their 1st round pick if it is later than top 8.  
 
Why?  Because that's what they paid Charlotte to take Ben Gordon off their hands and absorb his contract.  The Pistons could have just used their amnesty cut on him as they are one of ten teams who never exercised it, but they didn't because owner Tom Gores has some sort of moral dilemma with paying people who don't actually work for him.
 
Currently the Pistons are 10th worst in the NBA.  Need a whole lot of losing to bump them down a couple spots.

Before any of the games have resulted in finals tonight, the Pistons are still in the 10th worst spot.  This is 3.5 games back of actually making the playoffs in a historically bad Eastern Conference and 2 games ahead of having the 8th worst record and a likely hope of keeping the pick.
 
The good news is the Pistons are playing in San Antonio tonight where they will probably have their lunch money stolen.  The bad news is Cleveland, the team right under the Pistons in the standings, are playing in OKC where they will probably suffer the same fate.

It's likely.  They are pretty thick into a situation where they will lose their pick because it isn't worst 8 in the NBA, and also not make the playoffs because they're not in the best 8 in the conference.  If that fateful day happens in the May NBA Lotto where they lose their 9 to 14 1st round pick, I will probably just light my apartment complex on fire and cry for weeks in my jail cell.

The Cavs won in OKC as Kyrie went beast mode.  Pistons are going to lose in San Antonio.  If the Pistons do #savethepick, I will send a Christmas card to Kyrie.
