There are two different types of surgery. Discectomy and he's ready to go in two months with no long term side effects. Or the fusion surgery, where he would likely likely be out for a whole year and may never be the same strength wise. We're not sure which he will have.

Why wouldn't he go with the Discectomy?

I'm no doctor, but from what I understand you always have the discectomy. Sometimes you have a fusion too, other times you allow the gap to just remain. Not really sure why.

It sucks, but we really won't know until he is back on the court, whenever that will be. Could be the first day of camp with no restrictions, or we could be talking about is it worth bringing him back to only play in a few games at the end of next season.

Sometimes it doesn't seem worth it to continue in your sport when stuff like this happens. Depending on how the surgery goes, I'd consider retirement, assuming he hasn't spent foolishly and is set for life. Could get an analyst job that pays well easily, as well.

this seems like a pretty bad injury and risky surgery to come back from and try to continue. i really don't know of he should even risk it. any type of fusion surgery usually ends whatever career the person had, contact with what was fused can be even worse after.
