Ricky Rubio Could Seek Extension Offer Of $10M Per Year
Mar 28, 2014 7:50 PM EDT

There is a sense that Ricky Rubio's agent could "demand" a contract extension of at least $10 million per year with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to a report.

Rubio is represented by Dan Fegan.

Rubio has not shown to be deserving of an eight-figure salary, averaging 9.0 points and 8.6 assists while shooting 37.4 percent from the field this season.

Rubio is in his third NBA season.

It's a tough situation.  He has great court vision and playmaking ability, and his raw defensive numbers look impressive, but he's such an abysmal shooter... like, horrendously bad.  He really can't score at all.

You can't give him 10 million, but you don't want to see a guy like that walk for nothing.  If surrounded with the right cast of players, he could be the perfect pure point to run a team.  His biggest flaw is fixable, so it might be worth it to be patient.

I like Ricky, but he certainly would not be worth 10m annually. But with how inflated the market is these days, he will probably get it.

Twolves need to start over, I'd trade him/let him walk.

He's so replaceable; no reason to pay him $10M annually

idk if id say "so replaceable" i dont think theres any denying he has a lot of raw talent for seeing the floor and distributing as well as on the defensive side of the ball. Not a lot of pure points out there anymore but he needs a way better cast. Also theres no way he is currently worth 10mil but idk if i could let him walk.

His agent should find out hes not worth 10mil tho and re-sign with the Wolves eventually

Give him 10 mil if certain incentives are met, such as consistent improvement in his shooting percentages and PPG, Otherwise, protect yourself if he don't improve.

The thread title isn't "Rubio seeking $10M if incentives reached annually"

Irrelevant because he's NOT getting 10M annually. Not a chance.

I wouldn't be shocked if he got more than $10M to be honest.

Yeah, but who's dumb enough to pay him that, aside from maybe the Timberwolves, who are so desperate to be relevant that they just might force Flip to give him a big deal?

I just don't see it. Unless you're confident that he will become something of an offensive player, is there any point unless it puts him in a perfect situation?
