The Minnesota Twins have fired Ron Gardenhire after 13 seasons as manager.

Minnesota has lost 92 games in each of the last four seasons.

Gardenhire had one year left on his contract. He was the second-longest tenured in the Major Leagues behind Mike Scioscia of the Los Angeles Angels.

Thread worthy.

Their loss. He is one of the better managers in the MLB, just hasn't been given any talent whatsoever to work with.

Suppose they wanted a new voice in the clubhouse though.

I don't get it either. Can't really fault him for the team being shitty when you're throwing Quad-A level lineups out there every day.

I don't think we have to worry about that.

If the Tigers win it all this year, I'll name my firstborn "Brad" regardless of the sex.

Eh, he should be managing an NL team in the 1980s

Ron Gardenhire is my favorite MLB personality, and I'm livid that he was fired, but I understand it, at the same time. Gardy, from what I was understand, was unwilling to fire anybody in his staff (most notably pitching coach Rick Anderson). The Twins have gone through 4 straight 90+ loss seasons due to the lack of talent, but 13 years is a long time without any real playoff noise. They had been very solid under Gardy, but often seemed overmatched once the playoffs rolled around.

This is what happens when a team is unwilling to spend money on pitching (until this offseason, anyway) and continues to bring in pitchers who struggle. Phil Hughes is the exception. Ricky Nolasco sucked until late in the season. The Vance Worley experiment involved me thinking I'd say better pitches take the mound for the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks lol. Kyle Gibson is on his way to being a great 2 or 3, but that's about it. Guys like Scott Diamond, Andrew Albers, Trevor May, Sam Deduno--all have had great performances but no consistency, and once they started playing bad, it snowballed.

I want to see Hughes, Nolasco (he got better once he got healthy), and Gibson back next year, but the fourth and fifth pitches can't be as bad as they've been in recent years.

And to think, this team thought 85 tops for a fastball Carl Pavano was an ace for a little while lol

The front office has a lot more things to apologize for than Gardenhire does, and the front office should be wiped, but it was probably time for Gardy to go too. When you're a coach somewhere for so long, the message and the vibe in the clubhouse just starts to become stale. It's just time for Gardenhire to be in a new clubhouse.
