After being demoted to a backup role behind Colt McCoy, Robert Griffin III's tenure with the Washington Redskins could soon come to an end.

People within the organization say it is highly unlikely Griffin will return to the team next season, as Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports.

Owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen, two of Griffin's supporters, both believed he would be able to return to his 2012 form and hired head coach Jay Gruden in the hope that he could make it happen, according to Reid.

But over the past couple of weeks, Snyder and Allen started to see the same shortcomings Gruden first noticed during the preseason and became convinced that a change at quarterback was necessary, Reid reports.

One of those shortcomings was Griffin's off-field approach. Some within the organization reportedly felt that Griffin should have spent less time in the weight room and more on perfecting other parts of his game.

Griffin is also very active on social media, which reportedly caused Gruden to question his priorities.

Gruden seemed to leave the door open for Griffin to regain a starting role, but depending on how well McCoy performs down the stretch, this may be the end of the RG3 era in Washington.

Would be funny if he ended up in St. Louis.

^^ I can't really see it. Eagles are probably torn enough between Sanchez and Foles.

Does anyone here find Griffin to be over-hyped? I get that he had great college football numbers, but he comes to Washington and nothing special happening.

Aside from having the best rookie season in the history of the league, and him leading them to their first division title in 13 years.

Injuries derailed that, and RG3's ego perpetuated his downfall, but there is a systematic problem in Washington, and that is what ultimately ruined him.  It will ruin whoever else they bring in after him.  It will continue until Snyder dies.

RG3 was the first player in league history to lead the league in yards per carry and yards per attempt, and he did it as a rookie. He was lived up to the hype pre-injuries, but the potential for injuries is what we knew his downside was, and why Luck was still far and away the prevailing choice at #1.

Totally willing to bring in RG3 for a 3rd though and see if working with Shanny gets him going again.

Not a shocker.  Will he end up like another Tebow and not get on any teams?   He may wind up as a backup, but I don't think he will be a started.  Maybe Tennessee?

End up like tebow? Wtf lol. They are completely different. Tebow couldn't complete a pass to save his life. Rg3 can actually do pretty good at times unlike tebow. Plus rg3 has much more upside then tebow that's a horrible comparison

If RG3 goes to Philly to be the starter, people will eventually start calling him a Top 10 QB. He's a pretty good QB with great athleticism, and his play style fits perfectly into the offensive system that is the easiest to run in the NFL

It'd be pretty hysterical if he went to Tennessee. Especially if he went there and played well.

I don't know man

Like, the odds that a black, athletic QB, one who was raised and played college ball in the state of Texas, and wears #10, and would play for the Titans, is just too unlikely.
