Say this for Mike Shanahan: he has the 2011 Redskins believing. While skeptics include Washington in the group of the NFL’s bottom teams, Jammal Brown says they won’t settle for a mere 12 wins, and Kevin Barnes “could never imagine that our franchise would be even remotely seen like that,” and now Rex Grossman is going all-in as well.

“We’re fine being the sleepers right now,” Grossman told Comcast SportsNet’s Kelli Johnson. “You know, we’re just waiting in the wings ,ready to take over the NFC East. Nobody’s talking about us. That’s right where we want to be. You look at us from top to bottom out here, there’s a bunch of great players. And we don’t need people saying we’re the best right now, but when it’s all said and done, I really feel like this team’s gonna win the East.”

I mean, that’s great that he feels that way. Certainly better than the alternative. But that wasn’t all he said.

“I look around, this offense from top to bottom is better than that offense I had in Chicago [during the Super Bowl year],” Grossman said. “The defense is gonna make a ton of strides this year. I know they are. It’s gonna be fun. I know we’re gonna be a good team.”

That Bears team, for the record, finished with 325 yards per game — 15th in the NFL — and 26.7 points per game, which was second. Many of those points, of course, came from defense and special teams. The 2006 Redskins averaged 336 yards per game and 18.9 points per game.

Anyhow, as confident as Grossman is about the team, he’s playing it cool about his own position atop the depth chart entering into the preseason debut.

“I don’t read anything into it,” he told Johnson. “That has nothing to do with anything, as far as I’m concerned. I’m in a battle for the starting job, and I’m worried about going out and proving it in the preseason games.”

None of you will be welcomed on the bandwagon when this comes true.

I didn't read any of the article, but I fully expect the division to be between the Eagles and Redskins. The Skins should be 9-7 or 10-6. I love their running back tandem, and it looks like Grossman has finally figured it out.

I'd laugh. All they've been talking about is the Eagles mostly with of course the Cowboys and Giants being mentioned as the better teams before the year started, I'd like to see the Redskins beat all of them.

Its 2 games people, let me see them after they go through the AFC East gauntlet. Cowboys and Eagles will have a shot at them as well.
