Report: TOR has the best shot at Phil Jackson

The Raptors have the best shot at luring Phil Jackson out of retirement due to the presence of former AEG exec Tim Leiweke, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Zen Master recently turned down a coaching job with the Nets and reportedly is in "listen mode" at this point. If he returns, Jackson is reportedly looking for a Pat Riley-type role overseeing a team's basketball operations department. The Raptors have been prominently linked to Jackson ever since Leiweke was hired as the new president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and the fit makes a ton of sense if Jackson wouldn't mind taking over a franchise that has cap issues and probably needs a serious overhaul, which has never really been Jackson's M.O. At this point, only time (and dollars) will tell.

I think a GM spot would be OK for Phil. I believe he wants to coach too, but he wants complete roster control as a coach and no teams will offer him that.

As far as the GMing version of Phil goes? I think he would be a good GM. I mean, the man is more than just an on floor coach. He knows a lot about managing and a lot about players and other teams around the league.

This move surely wouldn't hurt the Raptors.

i really cant see him going here other than his friend. the roster is somewhat of a mess and has huge salary issues. he cant just go out and trade everything and get the type of players hed want.

I've been saying this for the last few days.  To my knowledge Toronto is the only team that has offered him that GM role and at the end of the day Phil has come out more than once and said that's what he wants.

I'm confused as to why someone would be willing to give him so much money to take a front office role. He's never done it.

I can't really see him going to Toronto. I wish he would come back to LA, if only we'd fire D'Antoni.
