Report: Jets to keep Sanchez into preseason
Citing a league source, Newsday reports the Jets plan to keep Mark Sanchez on the roster into the preseason and will let him compete for their starting quarterback job.
It doesn't necessarily mean much for the 2013 season. Jets rookie GM John Idzik comes from Seattle, and last offseason the Seahawks took a similar approach with then-incumbent Tarvaris Jackson after signing Matt Flynn and drafting Russell Wilson. Idzik has signed David Garrard and drafted Geno Smith. In Seattle, Jackson opened training camp as the Seahawks' "starter." On August 26, he was shipped to the Bills for a late-round pick. There are more salary cap implications to the Sanchez situation, but the Jets have even less of a reason to keep him than the Seahawks did with "T-Jack."
