Report: Chilly safe for another week

Before Sunday's Cardinals-Vikings game, some Vikings players reportedly wanted to see coach Brad Childress fired even if the Vikings won the game.

Given the way the Vikings won the game, it's likely not happening.

Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that, indeed, Childress will remain on board for next weekend's game against the Bears at Soldier Field.

"We're all good," an unnamed team source told Fowler.

Fowler also reports that owner Zygi Wilf shouted "great heart" to his team after the game.

Childress had this to say about his status: "They came expecting to see an execution and they ended up with a pretty good football game."

Right, but plenty of them still want to see the execution. -PFT

I don't know what it will take for Wilf to get rid of this guy. Wilf interviewed a lot of players this week and word is that the reviews of Childress were far from favorable. I went into this game hoping the Vikings would lose b/c sacrificing a win would've meant a 99.9999% chance Childress was out on the street come Monday.

Then our defense woke the hell up in the 4th quarter and Derek Anderson could barely get a pass off. Suddenly our offense started moving the ball with ease. I ended up having to root for the win b/c I still have hope that our team can go into the next game playing with the same intensity as that 4th quarter...and as bad as the NFC is, we've got a chance.

I'm also satisfied knowing that Brad Childress won't be back next season...unless somehow we win the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of NFL analysts on ESPN and other such networks miraculously start to praise Brad Childress after this win.

I was shocked they came back... then of course I'm also shocked that Brett Favre can still walk.

The Vikings' team that executed on both sides of the ball in the 4th quarter and in overtime, is the team that were supposed to be this season. The fact that they haven't is Childress' fault. Yes, the Coaches aren't actually on the field and in pads but when it comes to preparedness, execution, and cohesion, its all on the coaching staff to make that happen. I really think we're starting to see the players just say: "F*ck this guy, we will rally around each other and we will win for us." It would be a shame to see Childress get any of the credit for it happening too.

After Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf spoke with members of the organization, including players, prior to Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, he left some with the impression he was still contemplating firing coach Brad Childress regardless of whether the Vikings won or lost, several sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

The scenario given prior to kickoff: If the Vikings win, Wilf is expected to measure the manner in which the team played and how Childress managed the game; if the Vikings lose, there is a growing likelihood he would promote defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to replace Childress, the sources said.

Before the win, members of the Vikings organization, including players, offered vivid descriptions of the environment Childress has created around the team facility, including "we're walking on eggshells" ... "the air has been sucked out of the building" ... "nobody's having any fun."

Childress should have already coached his last game, some Minnesota players told ESPN's Ed Werder.

One veteran said: "I think there was a great window of opportunity this past week to make a change."

That player said the issues are the same as in recent years but have become more intolerable because of the team's record. He said Childress has never been popular in the locker room.

One player described Childress as untrustworthy. Another said: "The players have had enough of his BS. He needs to go."

Wilf's displeasure with the Vikings coach built on an almost daily basis and the owner strongly considered firing Childress last week, league sources said. -ESPN

I've said it before, and I will say it again. This is the guy who is really holding back this franchise, for now, and for the future of the Vikings. A change must be made, and the sad thing is that the team played like garbage until the final 10 minutes or so in the 4th. Another painful loss... and he's done.

I'm starting to think Wilf doesn't make the change until we suffer the 1 loss that will officially mean our season is done. Wilf was giddy after that last win and even though he now despises Brad, making a change might not really make a difference. Our team's performance in the 4th quarter and OT left us saying: "Where the f*ck did that come from!?! Why haven't they played like this in every quarter, all season!?!"

Speaking specifically on our defense, even more specific the pass rush, a beast may have been awoken. Keep winning, take down the Bears and Packers at home...we're back in biz.

Hey, Derek Anderson was playing like a champ until the 4th quarter. It's not about who we beat, it's more about how we beat them. Game went into overtime but Minnesota was phenomenal on both sides of the ball, late in the game. This team could of easily thrown in the towel, like Dallas, or even had Chilly out of their hair with a loss. These guys choose to play to win and they finally showed some signs of being the team that we all thought they were before week 1.
