The Tigers will hire Brad Ausmus as manager, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. The news was first reported in a tweet by Adam Spolane of SportsRadio 610.
Ausmus, 44, is currently a special assistant with the Padres. He was previously connected with the Cubs, and also interviewed with the Mariners and Nationals. Over the course of his impressive 18-year playing career, Ausmus caught nearly 16,000 innings, appearing in an All-Star game and winning three gold gloves.

This is either going to go really well or really bad. We'll see.

I like it. It's a gutsy move but it could end up becoming a great one. Could be our manager for years to come.

Was one of the names I actually liked during the whole process so I'm good.

I think it's a good move and I've heard good things, so we shall see.

I expected them to hire any former manager who recently got fired. This is better for the Tigers. I'm sure he's already better at managing a bullpen than Leyland, and for the Tigers sake I hope he isn't extremely old school like Leyland.

Everyone keeps saying he is a new school, stats oriented guy.

I like the new, fresh direction. Sounds like he has a really good baseball mind and I think he'll relate to the players really well. I'll be curious to see what he does with the coaching staff, I know he's keeping bench coach Gene Lamont but everything else beyond that point sounds up in the air. Don't think many Tiger coaches will be back, possibly Jeff Jones could be by the sounds of it.

I'd be surprised if Jeff Jones wasn't brought back. Of the rest, I'd like to see Tom Brookens come back as well. The ones who could benefit the most from Ausmus taking over, are the Detroit catchers. Ausmus is a 3-tiime Gold Glover, A five-time league-leader at catcher in fielding percentage, he has also led the league twice each in percentage caught stealing and in range factor, and once each in putouts and assists. He ranks in the Top 5, for putouts, in MLB history as a catcher. That would be great to improve our play behind the plate.

I don't want Brookens back. Or McClendon.
I guess I'd be okay with Jones and Lamont.

I'd rather we just did a full overhaul though.

Definitely not McClendon. Offense is way too up and down. Ausmus thinks highly of Lamont.

Yeah I know. What he said about him makes sense, being that he's been around forever and could use that experience. I'm fine with him.

Jones is a must imo. He's handled the staff pretty well since he took over.
