Times-Picayune - Reggie Bush appears committed to ending his days as an east-west runner.

"It's like an alcoholic when they go into an (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting or something," he said. "That's the first step, just recognizing it and getting better from there. ... I'm really just working on being explosive and, yes, hitting the holes. I think over these last two years I haven't done that."

Injuries undoubtedly have contributed to Bush's disappointing career. But so have bad habits, most notably his penchant for trying to bounce every run outside for a touchdown.

Too often Bush tiptoed to the hole or beelined outside at the first sign of a foreign jersey.

"He's so fast, he was used to just running around everybody in college," Saints offensive line coach and running game coordinator Aaron Kromer said.

"Reggie has such talent on the perimeter and catching the ball and running with it and doing a great job on the perimeter. ... He's a very talented player. And the really good players work on their weaknesses, and they're comfortable working on it and talking about it. And that's what he's doing."

he better or the kids gonna get wrecked. this is what people thought was the problem with Reggie Bush when he was getting drafted... he's just not big enough to be a full time back in the NFL. plus his amazing speed in college was cut in half once he got to the pros.

Ends and outside linebackers are too fast now-a-days. Reggie can outmaneuver anybody in the open field but coming out of the backfield is a 100% different story. It is not as much Bush doesn't want to be an east-west runner anymore..its that he can't b/c he's not effective.

On a side note...if nolafan33 catches wind of this thread...goodnight.

By reports, Reggie's been far and away the best player in TC for the Saints. Though I don't know how much that is saying, because Drew has missed some time. If he can stay healthy, I expect a good year from him.

I don't think the day ever comes where Bush is a successful full-feature back. Pierre Thomas is a huge fantasy sleeper people.

Not from the looks of it. I hate to sound like this, I really do, but everything I say is 100% fact and comes straight from the New Orleans Saints offensive coaches mouths. So far, Reggie Bush has been great. No more dancing, he cuts and goes. If he stays healthy, he'll get 250+ carries this season. Staying healthy is the key.

Pierre Thomas on the otherhand, has not impressed coaches. He seems to have lost the fire he had the past two seasons and doesn't go all out alot. The Saints are disappointed in his play. He's been outperformed by Mike Bell all throughout the offseason and TC. So much so, Mike Bell will be getting the start tonight against Houston, over PT.
