Redskins Targeting CB Aqib Talib
The general manager who drafted Aqib Talib and a man who coached him for his first four NFL seasons are interested in a reunion with the soon-to-be free agent.
The Washington Redskins have expressed an interest in Talib and will be making a push to sign the New England Patriots' cornerback if and when he becomes available on Tuesday, according to a person informed of the negotiations between the sides. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because talks were to remain private.
Talib is set to be one of the top free agents on the market Tuesday, though Patriots owner Robert Kraft was hopeful his team would be able to retain Talib when Kraft spoke to reporters in Manhattan on Monday.
The Redskins had the 30th-ranked pass defense in the NFL last regular season. The Patriots were 29th. If Talib doesn't agree to a new deal with New England before the gates of free agency open, it could be an interesting battle between those teams, and perhaps a few other serious suitors, for Talib's services.
