Real Madrid is studying the possibility to make a rich proposal to Marc Gasol. The Spanish team wants Marc Gasol to be the franchise player for the future.
Florentino Perez, president of the club, gave his approval to the entire operation. The biggest hurdle is the NBA lockout. Marc Gasol said that he will start considering proposals from Europe and Spain just if the NBA season will be completely cancelled.
The Spanish hoops powerhouse isn’t interested in signing Marc Gasol (who’s a free agent, by the way) to some short-term deal during the NBA lockout. Nope. Real Madrid wants to lock up the gifted big man for the long haul. From Ball in Europe (via Marca): “While plans to ink the Memphis Grizzly-cum-free agent to play for the Whites until the lockout lifts are not necessarily in the works, Spain-based Marca.com today reports that the Real Madrid front office is interested in making Gasol the team’s franchise player with a massive four- or five-year deal. According to ‘El Real Madrid se lanza a por Marc Gasol’ (or, ‘Real Madrid lunges for Marc Gasol’), ‘[Club president] Florentino Perez has already consented to the signing of the center’ and that “no expense will be spared in attempting to land Gasol.’ The piece goes on to note that Gasol could be paid a maximum of €9.3 million per season, well higher than this season’s top paychecks in Europe.”
That 9.3 million Euro deal is the equivalent to about 13 million, then consider that the Euro teams pay the contract taxes and this deal is worth the same to him as a 20.5 million dollar per year contract in the NBA. So he would get to live at home and make more than the NBA max would allow him to make.

Bye?
