According to the Post, the combination of the coaching change and a lack of top-tier centermen available in the free agent market might keep Richards in the Big Apple for at least another season.

It had been widely reported that the Rangers would most certainly buy out Richards' contract, but that might now be up in the air.
 

I don't mind giving him a year. Maybe under a new coach, it will spark fire and workout.

But then again, it's risky to keep him for a year and what happens if he gets hurt? Buy him out now and get rid of the trouble it might cost us.
 
Stepan can step up as the #1 center, IMO. If not, look for someone else.
