The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Ryane Clowe to the New York Rangers in exchange for two second-round picks and a third-round pick, reports TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com.

Ryane Clowe:
Assets: Plays a solid up-and-down game, and is a throwback winger who loves to check and do the dirty work. Strong on the puck, he's versatile enough to line up on either wing. Is a good scorer in close and an excellent scrapper, too.

Flaws: Can be a bit too streaky in the goal-scoring department. As he has become a bigger scoring threat, he has become a little less physical, too. Also, he is not an elegant skater; he's somewhat of a plodder, in fact.

Career Potential: Solid power forward.

Adds grit, I like it. Rangers could stop playing like pussies now. This won't add scoring, but at least the Rangers will get grit.

They need it, too. Islanders have been playing exceptionally well the past two weeks and Rangers really need to get it going. If they can grab the 8th seed they'll have as good a chance as any in the 1st round.

Didn't even realize the standings. Man, the Rangers might be in trouble. I thought they were going top 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. Horrible prediction, but with a short season anything can happen.

Would be cool to see the Islanders in the playoffs though.

That's exactly the thing. Torts is happy. Hopefully the system works.... Gaborik never worked because of the system. Surprised Rick Nash works.
