New York Giants' Prince Amukamara Embraces His Unique Lifestyle
In an interview with Muscle & Fitness magazine, New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara acknowledged that he's still a virgin and that he doesn't drink soda, let alone alcohol. As a result of his lifestyle choices, Amukamara admitted that some people call him "The Black Tim Tebow."
The 24-year-old former first-round draft pick revealed his strict training regimen as well as his clean diet in the piece with Matt Tuthill, but it's the activities Amukamara doesn't participate in that have caught the most attention.
In addition to saying that he doesn't eat bacon and that he only has 7.8 percent body fat, Amukamara talked about growing up Catholic and some of his lifestyle choices:
I grew up Catholic, so it just started out as one of those things. I'd think, "If I do this, maybe I can go to heaven," so I said no drinks, no sex, all the big things. As I grew up, I realized that's not what it's about. It’s about having a relationship with Jesus. It's not about, "Don’t do this. Don’t do that." But still, it’s just one of those things I haven’t done, and I don’t see any benefit to doing it. You’re always reading about people getting DUIs. So many bad things that happen and wind up in the paper are alcohol-related, so by not drinking, it saves me, my team and my family a lot of trouble.
There's certainly no shame in having your values and morals compared to Tim Tebow's, a former Heisman Trophy winner.
Amukamara was born in Leominster, Mass., to parents of Nigerian descent. According to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, he has five sisters (Princess, Precious, Promise, Peace and Passionate). Youngmisuk noted that "his mother, Christie, was a sprinter on the 1984 Nigerian Olympic track team" and "his father, Romanus, is a chief." His grandfather was the king of the Awo-Omamma in Imo State of Nigeria.
Amukamara has appeared in 22 games for the Giants since being selected 19th overall out of Nebraska in the 2011 NFL draft. He has defended 12 passes and recorded two interceptions over that time.
