http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/05/29/ponder-bothered-by-trent-dilfers-post-draft-criticism/related/

Most draft observers considered the Vikings’ selection of quarterback Christian Ponder to be a reach, maybe even the biggest of round one. Few were more outspoken than ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer.

“Christian Ponder is Elvis Grbac,” Dilfer said after the pick was made. “… Elvis Grbac was a beautiful thrower. He threw for 4,000 yards. He did a lot of nice things.

“Every time it got tough, he melted.”

Dilfer claimed to have watched every snap Ponder took at Florida State. In Dilfer’s opinion, Ponder tanks under pressure, and is more workout wonder than franchise quarterback.

“The pocket has to be nice [for Ponder to excel],” Dilfer added. “Any time he’s asked to quicken that up or there’s people around him, his accuracy is awful. … He plays with a lot of anxiety. … Christian Ponder tests of the charts. He’s in shorts and a t-shirt. He goes to his pro workout, he’s in shorts and a t-shirt. His big pecs are hanging out. He’s got big guns.”

And Ponder was listening.

“I heard he was really railing on me,” the rookie told Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “It almost comes across as personal for some reason. I didn’t know he was doing medical tests at the Combine.”

Ponder already showed that he can overcome adversity by rebounding from a seemingly devastating Chick Fil-A Bowl game in which he went 1-for-5 for six yards and was yanked in favor of sophomore E.J. Manuel. (Supposedly due to a concussion.) Ponder’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, projected his client as no better than a third-round pick at the time.

Ponder went 12th overall.

Ideally, Ponder will use the criticisms of Dilfer and draftniks to fuel his fire. In Minnesota, he’s got a good chance at success with one of the NFL’s top running games to keep defenses at bay, and an impressive young cast of receivers and tight ends to throw to.
If what Dilfer says bothers Ponder, then goodluck being a reach at #12 overall. Hes going to go through alot of criticism with that pick.

Eh, I'm still shocked by the pick. Ponder never looked like a first rounder too me.

Come on Ponder. Learn to take criticism. Why would it be personal? If you don't have a legit reason to think it's personal, it's not. Criticism comes with the territory. It happens and if you don't like it, go prove them wrong.

Still getting more coverage then Gabbert

#WINNING
Let me break it down for you.

During a time where theres basically NO NEWS to go around with the NFL. If you're getting talked about during this time period in the media, it normally isn't a good thing.

I don't know where you have it put in your head that Ponder is better than Gabbert, but you're obviously dumbfounded.

Gabbert > Ponder

Still don't understand what made Ponder a first rounder. Was it his average arm strength? His ability to force throws that will be intercepted into the NFL? Was it his questionable decision making? His average accuracy?

I think Ponder will be fine. I'm not going to say he's going to be better than Gabbert, Locker and whoever else, however.

I never said Ponder would be bad.

I liked Ponder up until 701 was on his nuts and was annoying and made me hate him. Before the draft however.. my QB rankings was

Gabbert
Locker
Newton
Ponder
Kaepernick
Dalton

I'm just saying.. He is receiving some hate.. It probably was quite the reach for the Vikings, but it might pay off, who knows. He's just got to go out there and prove all of the doubters wrong, then they won't be as critical. I like Ponder, have throughout. That is who I wanted the Bengals to draft, obviously that didn't happen and I also never seen it coming with him going 12th.
