Pistons to pursue Izzo

Pistons owner Tom Gores is expected to pursue Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo to take over permanent head coaching duties on Detroits bench, USA Todays Sam Amick reports (video link). John Loyer is serving as interim coach in place of Maurice Cheeks, whom Gores fired in February. Lionel Hollins is also rumored to be a candidate for the job.

this would be the ideal job for him, imo. younger team, can still be molded into what he'd want. i don't see him jumping over for us, though.

I've always thought Izzo would jump at some point. This is as good an opportunity for him as any considering family and all that. I'd like to see how he'd fare in the pros

I don't think there's a coach in waiting. If the replacement came from the inside I assume it'd be someone like Dwayne Stephens. Or maybe a former Izzo assistant. I think Izzo would have a hand in picking his replacement if he jumped.

I didn't know Tom Crean was a part of Izzo's coaching tree. I highly doubt Crean would go to MSU (or even be offered), but he's probably the most renowned coach on Izzo's tree right now.

We're talking about shady college coaches who are not bound by their contracts at all. I wouldn't put any scenario out of the realm of possibility.

don't qoute me but crean was linked to msu the last major rumor about izzo came out.

If Izzo truly wants to test the NBA, this is probably the year he leaves. Didn't have a strong recruiting class last year, this year isn't much better. Payne & Appling are seniors and gone, and Harris is probably entering the draft. Dawson & Trice are going to be their best players next year. Michigan looks poised to take the state over.

After we beat them twice in the regular season? I don't know many Michigan fans who expected to beat them a 3rd time in the same season.

In all seriousness I would like to see what Izzo can do at the next level but I don't know, just seems like he'll be a Spartan forever to me until he's done with coaching but I could be wrong. May want to give it a shot but definitely not expecting it or anticipating it to happen.
