The Pistons don't want to use their entire midlevel exception on one player, but they may have a change of heart if they feel they can land Corey Maggette, according to Booth Newspapers.

Detroit has spoken to Maggette's representatives at least once this offseason, inquiring as to whether he would be willing to sign for roughly $5.8 million.

A number of winners, including the Celtics, are targeting Maggette, who seems prepared to take less money.

"If you want to win, you have to make sacrifices," Maggette told the Boston Globe.

They won't get him, but it would be nice.

They would have to trade Prince or something. Maggette won't want to come off the bench and I don't know if Tay would be good of the bench.

Thats why we sign Maggette, then trade Tayshaun for a few solid benchplayers. Hes making $9 Mil, we can get 2-3 good bench players with that.

2-3 good bench players with just Tayshaun?

I doubt that. We'd have to include another player to get 2-3 bench players, which I don't want. We still need the go-to-guy in the clutch, which is not Maggette.

You know how many teams would want Tayshaun? I mean he IS an olympian, plus hes a solid player. And if we do sign Maggette, we would HAVE to trade Tayshaun for bench players, becasue we wouldnt have any money but the Vet's Minimum to use.

Even if we sign Maggette, we are still lacking the go-to-guy at the end of games. Billups used to be it, but I don't think he can do it consistently anymore. I would love to sign Maggette, but I think he'll go to the Spurs, before he comes to Detroit.

He's probably good for at least 60 games. He missed 32 games a couple of seasons ago,but came back with like 70 and 75 games the next couple of seasons.

I agree with .mexicool, you guys really dont need him to be honest.

I think he's going to end up in San Antonio, he's most likley to start there (other then Orlando)

He wouldn't start there... They have Ginobli, Bowen and Finley that play his positions.

Bowen as a 6th man? Is Manu 7th then?

They don't need depth there, they need a big man...

Well, they like to have Manu come off the bench... They won't bench Bowen just because they are getting some new player - the Spurs success relies a lot on Bowen's stellar D.
